Strength training (or resistance or weight training as it is sometimes called) involves use of weights (hand weights, machines or even your own body weight) to build muscle strength and endurance. To be effective, the program must be progressive—as you become stronger, the weights you use should increase.

Recent research indicates that a staggering one in three women (80% of whom have had babies) suffer from one or more pelvic floor disorders, with symptoms including the frequent need to urinate, dropped pelvic organs and incontinence*. Although less prevalent, men can also suffer symptoms of weakened pelvic floor muscles.
